OPHTHALMOLOGY

                                                              GLAUCOMA

Glaucoma is a disease in which the optic nerve is damaged and atrophied due to high intraocular pressure, which impairs the corresponding visual field and reduces visual acuity. Since the optic nerve that has once atrophied does not recover, if glaucoma is left untreated, it will lead to blindness, and even if the treatment is successful, the status quo will only be maintained, so early detection and early treatment are important. Congenital glaucoma: Glaucoma caused by dysgenesis in the corners of the body that impedes the drainage of aqueous humor, and is found in infants. Secondary glaucoma : Glaucoma caused by obvious causes such as inflammation and injury. In addition to those that have eye causes such as uveitis and eye injuries, there are also bleeding due to diabetes and long-term use of steroid hormones used to treat other illnesses. Primary glaucoma : A general term for glaucoma whose cause is unclear. It is often found in middle-aged and elderly people, and is the most common type of glaucoma. Primary glaucoma and secondary glaucoma can be further divided into two types, open-angle glaucoma and closed-angle glaucoma, depending on how the aqueous humor flows. For Chinese herbal medicine, choose a prescription that contains chrysanthemums and wolfberry, which have long been considered to be good for the eyes.

Cataract is a condition in which the crystalline lens in the eye becomes cloudy and looks hazy as a symptom. Most of the causes are due to aging, but they can also be associated with diabetes, traumatic or atopic dermatitis. The origin is unknown. It progresses slowly, so there are usually no symptoms like this at first. Treatment is generally by removing the crystalline lens and inserting a lens. For Chinese herbal medicine, consider it as a symptom that occurs with old age, and select a prescription containing cornus officinalis according to your constitution.
